HAVING made a successful hit-and-run trip across the border, exciting pacer Shadow Sax will chase hometown glory next weekend.
Fresh from the five-year-old’s South Australia Cup triumph at Globe Derby just moments ago, co-owner Pam Hockham revealed Shadow Sax will back up in next Saturday night’s Ballarat Cup.
Hockham owns the son of Shadow Play, which is trained by record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart, with her husband, Russell.
“At this stage he will go around in the Ballarat Cup,” Hockham said. “It will depend on how well he comes through the trip to South Australia, but that is the plan.
“Ballarat fits in nicely with the plan to have him in the Hunter Cup at Melton on February 3.”
With master reinsman Gavin Lang in the sulky, Shadow Sax worked overtime in the ‘death seat’ before completing a three-metre win from Messini, with Bettor Party 16-and-a-half metres away third.
“What an amazing run,” Hockham said. “He’s done plenty of work and still had a bit up his sleeve at the finish.
“He is just such an exciting horse to be a part of.”
Unbeaten from seven starts this term, the gelding rated 1:58.2 for the 2645-metre trip, taking his overall record to an impressive 17 wins and six placings from 25 starts for earnings of $372,480.
