CONNECTIONS of promising pacer Moonrock are confident of claiming tonight’s Neatline Homes Shepparton Cup despite an awkward draw.

Racing in solid form, Moonrock will begin from the outside of the front row, with trainer Sonya Smith stating the son of Rocknroll Hanover is capable of overcoming the early obstacle.

Handy fourths at his last two starts, Moonrock won four his previous five outings, while finishing second in the other.

“It’s not an ideal draw, but he’s a winning chance from there,” Smith said. “We’ll just have to see how the others inside him come out as to where he can slot in.

“If he can get a nice trip he’ll be coming home hard.”

Citing San Carlo as the one to beat, Smith is also weary of in-form campaigner Major Secret.

Drawn the inside of the back line, San Carlo will be first-up since his luckless appearance in last month’s Perth Inter Dominion Final.

Major Secret, which has two wins and two seconds from four starts this campaign, is the only other runner on the second row.

“San Carlo is a very nice horse and is the one to beat despite his draw,” Smith said. “Major Secret is also racing well and will no doubt be right in the finish.

“We’ll need a bit of luck, especially from the draw, but if we can get te right trip will be thereabouts.”
