EXCITING youngster Lumineer will be kept fresh ahead of his first major target for the season.
Following the three-year-old’s win at Tabcorp Park Melton last night, trainer Ange McDowall stated Lumineer’s next start will be in a Victoria Derby heat.
Qualifiers for Australia’s oldest classic are scheduled to be run as part of the stellar Ballarat Cup program on January 20.
“He won’t race again until the Derby heats in a couple of weeks,” McDowall said. “I’ll just keep him going along at home.”
Driven by Jason Lee during his latest triumph, Lumineer was caught wide from barrier four before working his way to the lead.
Having little more than a glorified training run once in front, the son of Sportswriter was untouched to score by 10-and-a-half metres from Cullens Legend, with Bettor Beau a head away third.
“He felt strong throughout and did it pretty easily,” Lee said.
Rating 1:57.3 over 2240 metres, the Australian Pacing Gold purchase remains unbeaten from seven starts for earnings of $193,370.
