BOOM youngster Chase Auckland is expected to match another of his famous father’s feats when he heads to Auckland tonight.

Despite a second row draw, the unbeaten gelding is a raging favourite in the Sales Classic for co-trainers Natalie Rasmussen and Mark Purdon.

Victory will be Chase Auckland’s second Group One success of the season – a tally his father, Auckland Reaction, reached as a three-year-old in 2007/08.

Ironically, father and son registered their first Group One triumph in the Sires’ Stake Final at their fifth start!

Auckland Reactor captured the series in 2007, while Chase Auckland was too good for his opposition last month.

Auckland Reactor’s second top shelf win came in the New Zealand Derby at his 10th outing, while Chase Auckland’s pending assignment will be his seventh start.

To be driven by Rasmussen, Chase Auckland has drawn barrier 11, with his main danger, King Of Swing, to come from the pole.

“He has trained on well since his win in the Classic a couple of weeks ago and will be hard to beat again,” Rasmussen said.

“We’re very happy with him and are confident he can overcome the draw.”

Chase Auckland is one of four runners the power couple have in the field, with The Devils Own and Spankem drawn the outside of the front, with All U Need Is Faith also on the back line.

All U Need Is Faith and Spankem filled the trifecta behind Chase Auckland in the Alabar Classic at Auckland a fortnight ago.
