PROMISING pacer Carter Michael has the prime opportunity to force his way into next month’s Golden Nugget.
Engaged in a prelude of the prestigious Group One at Gloucester Park tonight, the Nathan Turvey-trained entire has drawn perfectly the pole.
Racing in top form, Carter Michael won his three starts – including a track record – before a gallant second at his latest outing.
Pleased with the four-year-old, Turvey is confident Carter Michael will make his presence felt in the 2130-metre qualifier.
The $200,000 Final is scheduled to be held at the same venue on December 8 – Inter Dominion day.
“He’s in good nick, now it’s a matter of whether he’s good enough to go with them,” Turvey said. “I’m rapt with everything he has done and can’t see why he won’t do well.
“He’s got the draw we needed against a pretty strong field, so now hopefully he can make the most of it.”
Citing Rocknroll Lincoln as the one to beat, Turvey is also weary of former Victorian, Wrappers Delight, which gained a start as the first emergency.
Rocknroll Lincoln has drawn two, with Wrappers Delight to follow Carter Michael from the inside of the second row.
“Justin (Prentice) has Rocknroll Lincoln going well and he’s also got a handy draw,” Turvey said. “Wrappers Delight has drawn to follow us and his record shows he races best coming off the speed.
“It’s a pretty even field so it will come down to who gets the right run.”
