STAR mare Hannelore Hanover has claimed a slice of history with her victory in the $136,000 My MVP Allerage Farms Open Trot at The Red Mile yesterday.

Driven by popular reinsman Yannick Gingras, Hannelore Hanover stopped the clock in a brilliant 1:49.2 when accounting for Homicide Hunter and Pinkman.

Not only did the five-year-old slice 1.1 seconds from her best mark, she became the first trotting mare to break 1:50.

Giant Diablo held the previous mares’ record on a mile track when winning in 1:50.1 in 2007.

“Around the last turn they were still trotting pretty strongly,” Gingras said. “She felt so strong in the lines. I knew she’d come up a huge quarter.

“I’ve said this all along shess the best in North America. Coming to the wire, I knew I was going under 50. But 49.2 is definitely a great achievement for this mare…she definitely deserves it.”

Trained by Ron Burke, who part-owns the daughter of Swan For All, Hannelore Hanover boasts 33 wins from 54 starts for a bankroll of $2,084,439.
