Draw ‘chums’ Cup for Shark

YESTERDAY’S barrier draw appears to have turned the Victoria Cup into nothing more than chum for outstanding pacer Lennytheshark.

Fresh from his crowd-pleasing win in last weekend’s Smoken Up Sprint, Lennytheshark has drawn the pole at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.

As such, the David Aiken-trained stallion will start one of the shortest-priced favourites in the Grand Circuit event’s history.

Listed at $3.60 upon nomination, the son of Four Starzzz Shark has been tightened to $1.40 with TAB Fixed Odds.

Such is the likelihood of Lennytheshark dominating the Group One, My Field Marshal is the only other runner under double figures!

My Field Marshal, which finished second in last week’s feature, is $9 after drawing gate 10.

Thrilled with his stable flagship’s progress, Aiken added further concern for rivals by declaring Lennytheshark has improved since his 1:51.9 win when first-up from a spell.

“Last week’s run has done him the world of good,” Aiken said. “He had two trials leading up to it, but the race lifted his fitness.

“His work since has been great and he will be better again for the Cup.

“It’s a terrific draw, and with his gate speed, it is hard imagining him being crossed.

“That said, he still has to get out there and get the job done, which I have no doubt he will.”
