Top mare breaks her own record

WELL-PERFORMED mare Medusa knocked a tick from her own track in last night’s $20,000 Filly and Mare Pace at The Meadows.

Once Medusa pocketed Sassa Hanover and secured the lead, her only competitor was the clock.

The six-year-old posted solid fractions en route to her a length-and-a-quarter victory over Sassa Hanover, with Hurricane Calleigh rallying for show.

With Tony Hall in the bike, Medusa blazed home in 1:49.4.

Randy Bendis trains Medusa, which boasts earnings of $612,656, and owns with Tom Pollack.

Elsewhere on the card, Smart Balance provided the day’s tote board fireworks when she took a Non-Winners Pace for trainer-driver Cory Kreiser at 177-1.

Nicole Foster and Kreiser own the three-year-old daughter of Yankee Cruiser, which returned $451 for a $2 across-the-board wager.
