HANDY mare BJ’s Sweetheart caused a major upset in last night’s Mares Open at Harrington Raceway.
Driven by popular reinsman Art Stafford junior, BJ’s Sweetheart scored at the lucrative odds of $44.
After enjoying a nice trail, the daughter of No Pan Intended finished strongly during the latter stages to win by a head from Purrfect Bags, with Miss Me Yet several lengths away third.
Trained by co-owner Jason Skinner, who owns the seven-year-old with his wife, Susan, BJ’s Sweetheart stopped the clock in 1:53.3 to register her 29th win for earnings just shy of $320,000.
Elsewhere on the card, former New Zealand mare Media Queen completed a hat-trick when she scored in 1:55 for trainer Chris Marino.
