CLASSY mare Dream About Me has suffered a slight setback, which has resulted in her being scratched from Sunday’s Hannon Memorial at Oamaru.
After noticing the multiple Group One winner was favouring her hoof, co-trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen discovered Dream About Me was hampered by a foot abscess.
As such, the five-year-old will be given a light week to recover before pressing ahead with her New Zealand Cup campaign.
“After a couple of wet days I hoppled her this morning but I wasn’t pleased with the way she went,” Purdon said. “I found she had the foot abscess, which explained it.
“We’ve put a poultice on it and hopefully it will come good in the next couple of days.
“She should come right fairly quickly and won’t miss much work.”
It was better news for freakish Lazarus and his rising star stablemate, Heaven Rocks, which trialled well against each other at Rangiora today.
Leading throughout with Purdon in the cart, Lazarus scored by a nose from Heaven Rocks in 2:37.4 for the 2000-metre stand, with the last half covered in 56.3 seconds.
“It was a good hit-out for both of them,” Purdon said. “Lazarus has improved again, but he’ll need to as Heaven Rocks is a very fast horse and is mentally a lot better.”
