Gindi bounces back with a vengeance

DANI HILL will be looking to claim a second national title at Albion Park on Saturday night

IT DIDN’T take handy mare The Last Gindi long to return to the winners’ circle.

Successful at her first four South Australian starts, The Last Gindi had her sequence broken when a solid third three weeks ago.

Given a freshen-up by trainer Dani Hill, the daughter of P B Bullville bounced back to the number one stall with a vengeance at Globe Derby yesterday.

“She went well when third, but probably not as sharp as she had been, so I gave her a few easy days and she brightened right up,” Hill said. “It was a little easier company yesterday as well, which suited her.”

With Hill’s brother Wayne holding the reins, The Last Gindi led throughout from barrier four to score by two-and-a-half metres from Major Rainbow, with Hardly A Grin a metre away third in 1:58.3 over 1800 metres.

“Once she got the front she was always going to be hard to run down,” Hill said. “She copped a bit of pressure for the lead from the favourite, Major Rainbow, but was too strong on the day.

“She can definitely continue to work her way through the grades, so I’ll just find the right races and go from there.”
