Tough start to title defence

    New Zealand superstar DEXTER DUNN

NEW ZEALAND’S Dexter Dunn faces a horrid start to his World Driving Championship title defence.

Successful in the 2015 Australian-based edition, Dunn is one of two Kiwis in the tournament, with legendary horseman Mark Purdon also representing the Shaky Isles.

Drivers from 11 countries will be in the thick of the action, with competitors earning points based on their finishing position as they chase the title of World Driving Champion.

Dunn gains automatic entry as the defending champ.

The series begins at Century Downs in Balzac, Canada on Saturday, with five heats to be conducted throughout the afternoon.

To the dismay of his huge following, Dunn has drawn wide with three of his drives, while his best draw – the pole with Pocket Novel – is midfield in the betting.

Purdon has also received the visitor’s draw in several heats, with Sufferin Succotash from barrier three in the fourth event his best prospect as the $3 favourite
