IT COULD be the saviour of metropolitan racing in New South Wales…
That was the call from prominent horseman Shane Tritton when discussing the upcoming trial of a new handicapping system in the state.
Harness Racing NSW recently unveiled the trial system, which will be in operation from July 1 until September 30.
“It’s only a trial, but based on the way it is structured, this system is bound to be a hit,” Tritton said.
“There are so many advantages to this system, too many to mention them all, but an example is due to many horses moving up and down the system, professional drivers will become more evident and finally we will see drivers dictating who they drive, which is the way it should be.
“Junior drivers will also be given more chance to compete on Saturday nights. Mares will also gain an advantage more often.
“The list of pros goes on.”
