CONSISTENT trotter Rift Valley led home a unique trifecta when causing a minor upset at Geelong last night.
Capturing a Vicbred Super Series heat, the four-year-old scored from the favourite Aldebaran Eve and second-elect Kyvalley Topcat.
Driven by talented reinsman Emmett Brosnan for trainer Geoff Webster, Rift Valley is by leading colonial stallion Skyvalley, which is also the sire of the placegetters.
“I noticed Skyvalley got the trifecta, but I’m glad we were the ones who headed it,” Brosnan said. “She is a very consistent mare, and when she can get a run like that, she is always hard to beat.”
After trailing the leader and sprinting along the passing lane, Rift Valley rated 2:00.3 over 2100 metres, with her time 3.7 seconds quicker than Into The Unknown in the second heat.
“That run will do her good and she will improve for the Final,” Brosnan said. “It was a month between races for her, so she will benefit from the outing.
“She had a couple of weeks off because she put in an out-of-character run at her previous start, but she’s come back well.
“Now we’ll just hope for the right draw and passage in the Final next week.”
