AN AWKWARD draw should prove to be no obstacle for track specialist Cheersbigears.
The Dale Afford-trained pacer is engaged at Port Pirie tomorrow night – a venue he has a strong affinity with.
Cheersbigears has won 15 of his 58 starts, with all his victories coming at Port Pirie. The gelding has raced at 10 tracks!
As for his pending assignment, Cheersbigears has drawn the inside of the second row, with Afford remaining confident with the son of Grinfromeartoear.
“He is good form and is certainly going well enough to win,” Afford said. “The biggest concern is where he ends up in the run.
“Looking at the field, I can see him settling two-back along the inside, which is a problem.
“Hopefully speed will be on, which gives us a chance. If he can get a clear run, I have no doubt he can win.”
Citing Hey Hardy as the main danger, Afford is also weary of Antaeus Blue Chip.
Hey Hardy will begin from the pole, with Antaeus Blue Chip to come from gate two.
“Hey Hardy is the one to beat, but if he can lead from the pole it puts us in a better position,” Afford said. “What I can see happening is Antaeus Blue Chip crossing to the front and leaving us two-back along the pegs and looking for an opening.”
