POPULAR reinsman Zac Phillips gained the perfect birthday present at Tabcorp Park Melton just moments ago.
Turning 21 earlier this week, Phillips registered his maiden Group One victory when Une Belle Allure captured the Need For Speed Princess Final.
One of six Anton Golino-trained runners in the field, Une Belle Allure was driven to perfection by Phillips who bided his time before angling the daughter of Angus Hall into the clear at the top of the home straight.
Grabbing the lead in the last stride, Une Belle Allure scored by her stablemates Dance Craze and Nieta in 1:58.2 over 1720 metres.
A thrilled and gracious Phillips was quick to share the spotlight when returning to scale.
“I’ve dreamt of winning a Group One since I was young and to do it is just fantastic,” Phillips said. “So many people have played a role in getting me here and there’s just too many to mention.
“For Anton to trust me with the drive speaks volumes of the person he is and I can’t thank him enough to tonight.”
Stretching her record to two wins and two placings from six starts, Une Belle Allure will continue to follow the feature race trial, with Golino setting his sights on majors such as the New South Wales and Victoria Oaks.
