Youngster to earn SA Derby start

    LISA RYAN with Takemepitchamister

NEXT week’s South Australia Derby is the goal, but first promising youngster Takemepitchamister has to prove his worth at Globe Derby tonight.
Unbeaten from three starts, Takemepitchamister has given every indication he can be competitive in the Blue Riband event, but trainer Tony Ryan wants to see the son of Metropolitan overcome a stronger field.
“At this stage, like all locals with a promising three-year-old, we are harbouring hopes of the South Australia Derby,” Ryan said. “That is subject to his run tonight as he has to justify a shot at the it.
“He has certainly started his career well and progressed with each run as we’d hoped.
“He will have to be better again tonight, especially from a wide draw.”
To be driven by Ryan’s reinswoman-wife Lisa, Takemepitchamister will begin from the outside of the front row, with the talented Stars Of Courage drawn directly on his inside.
“The draw is a worry, but my biggest concern is I had to scratch him last week with an elevated temperature,” Ryan said.
“Although he seems bright and feels well, it is different under race pressure.”
