OWNER Milly Horton received an early birthday present at Launceston last night.
Due to turn 90 on Saturday, Horton is a part-owner of Cyrilfromthepocket, which led home a stable quinella for trainer Clayton Miller.
After racing in the ‘death seat’, Cyrilfromthepocket scored from Tisu Toota, with Shanghai Knight third in a modest 2:05.2 for the 2200 metres.
Miller drove the runner-up, with Rohan Hillier partnering the winner.
“To win at any time of the year is great, but to get the win and a photo for Milly right before her birthday is fantastic,” Miller said. “Racing horses with good friends like Milly is what is all about…it adds to the fun.
“Before the race I was leaning towards Tisu to win, but it was Cyril’s turn.”
Cyrilfromthepocket’s success also provided Miller with the highs and lows of his sporting passion.
While Cyirl the pacer was kicking goals on the racetrack, his namesake was part of a losing team against the Western Bulldogs the night before.
“Yes, I’m a Hawthorn supporting, so I wish the other Cyril had a win this weekend too,” Miller said.
