BOOM mare Delight Me matched one of her famous mum’s feats with her victory at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.
By top sire Bettors Delight, the pacer is from multiple Group One winner Cornsilk, which was among the best of her crop.
Cornsilk’s wins include the Vicbred Super Series Final for four-year-old mares – a feature Delight Me captured by outclassing her rivals with Gavin Lang in the sulky.
Scoring as a prohibitive $1.50 favourite, Delight Me annexed the Empire Stallions-sposnored feature from her stablemate Starburst Girl and Miss Dreamin.
By rating 1:55.3 for the 2240 metres, the lightly-raced campaigner provided trainer Emma Stewart with her third Group One of the evening and Lang with his fourth!
“She is a very nice mare, which is still on the way up,” Stewart said. “That was only her 12th start for 10 wins and two seconds. She has all the makings of being a top class mare next season.”
Set to enjoy an easy week, Delight Me will then be aimed at next month’s Australasian Breeders’ Crown…a series Cornsilk captured in 1999 as a two-year-old!
“She will have a short break now, then head towards the Breeders’ Crown,” Stewart said. “After that she’ll have a good long spell.”
