TASMANIAN horseman Paul Ashwood is planning a major mainland raid.
With a pair of talented two-year-olds on target for the Australasian Breeders’ Crown, Ashwood will cross Bass Straight with a strong team ready to chase Victoria’s riches.
“I will be going over to Victoria in a few weeks and taking about six horses with me,” Ashwood said. “A couple for the Crown and others to see what races we can pick up.”
Lynniemach booked her working holiday by capturing a Breeders’ Crown heat at Launceston last night when driven by Rohan Hillier.
The daughter of Mach Three rated 2:04.2 for the 2200 metre, taking her record to three wins and a third from five starts.
“She is a nice filly,” Ashwood said. “She can get a bee in her bonnet, but is no slouch. When she puts it all together she is very hard to beat.”
Although beaten in his qualifier, Offthetopofmy head will be “given a second crack” at the rich futurity.
With Gareth Rattray in the cart, Offthetopofmy finished third behind the undefeated Scooterwillrev and Buster William.
“He just wasn’t quite right and was off his game last night,” Ashwood said. “He will head over before the others to get ready for a heat at Kilmore.
“I’ll send him over on the boat tomorrow night and let him settle in.”
