WELL-BRED youngster Sombronskisomewhere is expected to have no trouble making his way into the second round of the rich Australian Pacing Gold series.
Engaged in a heat at Tabcorp Park Menangle today, Sombronskisomewhere has drawn to lead throughout for trainer Belinda McCarthy.
To be partnered by the leading horsewoman’s brother-in-law, Todd, the son of Somebeachsomewhere will begin from the pole, which has bolstered McCarthy’s confidence.
“He comes out quite well, so he should settle in front from one,” McCarthy said. “His work since his win last week has been great and he keeps improving each time we put him around.
“He is a nice colt with good speed and will take a bit of running down.”
McCarthy also has Awesome Stride in the qualifier, with the son of Art Major to be driven by her husband, Luke, from barrier six.
“He didn’t have any luck in the Bathurst Crown at his last start, but was impressive winning his heat before that,” McCarthy said. “The draw is a little awkward, but he is more than capable of winning.”
McCarthy’s father-in-law, John, is poised to play a strong role in the other heat after the highly-rated Better Be Gold draw the pole.
Albion Park will also host a qualifier of the Sales-based series in what is a wide open affair.
Recent Paleface Adios Classic winner Maestro Bellino shapes as the one to beat from gate three for trainer Chris Petroff.
