Beau a surprise early favourite

HIGH class pacer Beautide has been installed early Miracle Mile favourite on TAB Fixed Odds.

Successful in the 2013 edition of the time-honoured sprint, the James Rattray-trained and driven gelding is at $2.50, with Inter Dominion champion Lennytheshark on the second line of betting at $3.20.

Although no certainty to start in the Miracle Mile even if he earns a berth, Have Faith In Me is next on $4.50, with Bling It On the only other runner under double figures at $7.50.

Beautide’s recent record against the highest level of opposition suggests he is vulnerable over a mile compared to his performances over longer distances.

“I am very surprised that Lennytheshark isn’t favourite,” TAB’s Adam Hamilton said. “I think he’s better suited to a mile than Beautide, which has been most dominant in races over longer distances.

“Have Faith In Me is probably the most interesting runner for me. Mark Purdon (trainer) has a big decision to make if he wins the Chariots Of Fire and gains an invitation to the Miracle Mile.

“Will he, or won’t he, accept it?”
