Prize money cuts to devastate Queensland


    HARNESS RACING in Queensland is set to be devastated by prizemoney cuts announced by Racing Queensland yesterday.

    As of the 2016/17 financial year, the industry will lose $2.9million in stakes as the governing body slashes $18.8million from the three racing codes.

    The reduction to harness racing represents a 1.3 per cent decrease, with the state’s breeding scheme taking a massive hit.

    Qbred, designed to boost the local breeding industry, will be lowered by $990,000, with features races to be cut by $515,000.

    Other cuts include:

    Albion Park Friday

    Prizemoney to be reduced to eight races at $4000 and one race at $3501.

    Albion Park Saturday

    Prizemoney to be reduced to a race at $13,000, five races at $11,000 and four races at $7500.

    Albion Park Tuesday

    Prizemoney to be reduced to seven races at $5000 and two races at $3501.

    Redcliffe Wednesday

    Prizemoney for eight races at $3501 each.
