ALTHOUGH pleased with Ameretto’s performance at Tabcorp Park Menangle last weekend, trainer Ashlee Siejka left the venue concerned with the filly heading into Sunday’s Group One appearance.
An eye-catching second in a New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge semi-final, Ameretto was guaranteed a berth in the Final, but to a degree, was no certainty to take her place in the elite field.
To Siejka’s delight, those fears in the back of her mind have disappeared, with the talented horsewoman looking forward to the $125,000 decider with renewed enthusiasm.
“She has pulled up great from her run, which is terrific as she is a filly which doesn’t normally recover all that quickly,” Siejka said. “That was my biggest concern going into the semis, not knowing how well she would come out of it.
“She has come through it brilliantly and I couldn’t be happier with her.”
Drawn well in barrier three, Ameretto is the second elect at $6 on TAB Fixed Odds markets.
Outstanding New Zealans raider Supersonic Miss is a prohibitive $1.06 favourite after drawing well in gate four, with Makes Every Scents the only other runner under double figures at $9.
Defending champion Bamako Mali is listed at $41 after drawing barrier seven.
“Supersonic Miss is clearly the one to beat,” Siejka declared. “She hasn’t set a hoof wrong since being in Australia.
“We will need a bit of luck, but I’m thrilled with her condition and believe she can go close with the right run.”
